Sean Tallon Memorial Football Tournament 2013

Yonkers AOH Sponsors Irish Youth Sports Tournament in Woodlawn

NY Celtic and St. Barnabas in action at Paddy's Field in Woodlawn

The legacy of a local Yonkers hero was remembered this past Sunday as The AOH of Yonkers presented the 5th Annual Firefighter Sean Tallon Memorial Gaelic Football Tournament, held at Paddy’s Field in Woodlawn.  The tournament is held in conjunction with the G.A.A. Minor Board of New York each October.

The Tournament includes local youth teams from The Bronx and Yonkers

The tournament is named after N.Y.C. Firefighter Sean Patrick Tallon, who lost his life in the terrorist attacks on The World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

The competition was fierce!

Once again, the four local Under-8 youth teams (St. Raymond’s, St. Barnabas, NY Rangers and NY Celtic) competed in a round robin tournament to crown this year’s winner of The Sean Tallon Memorial Cup.

Here is a Video with Highlights from this Year's Tournament!

The organizers of the tournament were also honored this year to welcome Sean Tallon’s Mother Eileen and Sister Rosaleen, who helped present the Championship Cup and medals to this year’s winners!

Organizers welcomed members of Sean Tallon's family to the tournament this year

Thanks go to Division One Sports Director Joe Hallinan, who works tirelessly to make sure this event is a success each and every year!

The Yonkers AOH Division was proud to be a sponsor of The 2nd Annual “Chilly Hilly 5k Run/Walk” again this year to raise funds to benefit The Elizabeth Seton Pediatric Center in Yonkers.  The event is run by The North Yonkers Scholarship Foundation, which awards scholarships to local students and raises money for charitable causes in our area.

AOH Members Sean Mayer and Geoff Keating volunteer during the event

This year, nearly 400 people turned out to participate in the event.  There were several AOH members volunteering at water stations, and several other members competed in their respective age groups.

Father and Son Tom & Tom Allison refresh after a long day!

Congratulations to Brother Young Tom Allison for placing 6th overall and to Brother Kevin Hartnett, who placed 1st in the 60-69 age group!

Division One is a proud sponsor of The Chilly hilly 5k Run/Walk

Annual Respect Life Mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral

Yonkers Hibernians Attend Respect Life Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral

The AOH at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City

Members of Division One attended the annual Respect Life Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City on Sunday October 6th.  The mass, co-sponsored by the A.O.H. and The Sisters of Life, is held every October to celebrate the solemnity of every human life.

Division One Members line up outside St. Patrick's Cathedral

The Hibernians were warmly greeted by Msgr. Robert Richie, who reminded those gathered that all human life must be respected and protected from conception till natural death.  He also told the story about how the A.O.H. defended Old St. Patrick’s Cathedral against those who wished to destroy it back in the 1840’s.

Division One members present the gifts during mass

The Hibernians then attended a breakfast arranged for them at Maggie’s Place on east 47th Street. Notables in attendance were NYS President Jim Burke, National Director Charles “Chip” Mclean, National Pro-Life Chairman Jere Cole, and N.Y. County President Tom Beirne.

Members seated along side the alter at St. Patrick's Cathedral

Special Thanks to Bronx County’s John Hyland and NY County President Tom Beirne for arranging a wonderful event!  Thanks also to the Sisters of Life, who perform inspiring work each and every day!
