President's Message for February 2016

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Division One President Kevin Ellis

February 2016

Brothers,

Winter finally arrived last week and I hope everyone got thru the Blizzard of 2016 without any issues.  Thankfully the warm temperatures have since returned and most of the snow is now gone. Let’s hope that there will be no more major weather issues this year!  The month of February is where things start heating up around the AOH world in preparation for our busy St. Patrick’s Day season.  First let’s recap what occurred last month.

Our Division has submitted all of our per capita forms and paperwork closing out the 2015 calendar year, and once again it was a tremendously successful year for our Charities and Missions program.  We have reported over $26,000 in monetary donations and over 1,400 volunteer hours to the State and National Boards!  This is an accomplishment that could never have been reached without all of the hard work that is done by the entire membership throughout the year, congratulations to all of you!  Special thanks to our Charities and Missions Chairmen Jack McDonald and Tom Allison, who steered the charities committee and achieved another wonderful success.

Division #1 held its Annual Golf Sponsor Pub Tour this past weekend and once again many members showed up to support it.  We once again were able to distribute 10,000 coasters with our logo and contact info to all of the establishments who sponsor our golf outing every year.  Thanks go out to Tom Allison, Peter Van Slyck and Allways East Transportation for helping with this event again this year.

February has many events that all of you should be aware of starting with our Annual Superbowl Charities Fundraiser.  The pool once again sold out and we thank Brian Hartnett for all the hard work involved with it.  This fundraiser provides an important bridge between the parade season and our golf outing and we appreciate all of those who support this fundraiser each year!
Our main attention every February is our Annual Communion Breakfast which will be held at St. Joseph’s Seminary on February 28, 2016 at 10:00am.  Please get all of your table reservations in ASAP to Mike Morley so we can have as accurate a headcount as possible.  More information and copies of the event flyer will be available at our membership meeting at Fogarty’s Restaurant on February 3rd.

I would like to extend congratulations to our Chairman of Standing Committee Dennis O’Brien as he will be honored as our 2016 Hibernian of the Year at the Communion Breakfast.  Dennis will also be honored next month as he has been chosen as an Aide to the Grand Marshal of both the Sleepy Hollow & Yonkers St. Patrick’s Day Parades!  Dennis has done tremendous work for us over the years and the honors he will receive as very well deserved!  Congratulations Dennis!

Looking ahead to the Month of March it appears that the schedule has us once again participating in 4 St. Patrick’s Day Parade over a 7 day period.  Please clear your schedules now for the week of March 12th thru the 19th.  I will provide a specific time schedule in the coming weeks.  We will need maximum participation from our membership as this will be part of our 125th celebratory events.  There are several dinner dances associated with the parades that we support and these details will be covered our membership meeting.

I am confident that our members will once again answer the challenge as we head into our busy season.

Yours in our Motto,

Kevin Ellis, President
