President's Message May 2013

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Division One President Kevin Ellis

May, 2013

Brothers,

Division One is continuing to keep a busy schedule as we head on into the month of May, and there are several important events that will be taking place within the next few weeks.

Before that, let me first congratulate the entire membership on a job well done with the smashing success of our 16th Annual Charity Golf Outing!  The final numbers are still coming in, but it is looking like this year’s outing will be our most successful one yet, an amazing effort!  Special thanks to Tom Allison and the golf committee, who continue working all year long to ensure the outing is a success year after year.  Their efforts will make sure that our Missions and Charities program will continue to grow in both its size and reach.   I would also wish to thank John Grissom and the staff at The Ardsley Country Club who made the day absolutely unforgettable and special.

I would also like to commend Pat McLaughlin on his work in getting our United Ireland resolution adopted by the Yonkers City Council.  The resolution is part of a national effort within the A.O.H. to encourage the Irish and British governments to finish implementing all provisions of The Good Friday Agreement.  The fact that Yonkers is supporting this call carries serious weight, and we will continue to support the efforts of our Freedom for All Ireland State and National Chairmen with this campaign.

There are two important events this month:

First, Division One, along with the Aisling Irish Community Center in Yonkers, have teamed up to have the first “Extreme Makeover-Neighborhood Edition”.  This will take place on Saturday, May 11, 2013.  We will be assisting with general cleanup of the surrounding Woodlawn/Mclean Ave. areas, as well as visiting specific homeowners who require small repairs and work outside their homes.  This kind of community service goes right to the heart of what our organization is all about.  Kevin Hartnett has done a wonderful job in helping to organize this event.  Specifics will be discussed at our membership meeting.

Second, Division One will be the host as we hold our Major Degree Ceremony at Tara Circle on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at 2:00 pm.  All members who have not received their degrees must make every effort to attend this very important event!  The event cost is $25.00 per member.  Registration begins at 1:00 pm and attire will be business casual.

Division One will once again be awarding The Commodore John Barry Medal to a graduating student from each of the 9 Catholic Elementary Schools in Yonkers this year.

Please remember that our membership meeting in June will be held on the Tuesday, June 4th at Dunwoodie Golf Course.  The meeting will start early at 6:00 pm, followed by our “Summer Break” BBQ and celebration immediately after the meeting.

Lastly, I would like to wish a Happy Mother’s Day to all of the wonderful moms out there!  Here’s to wishing you a deserved loving and hopefully relaxing day!

In Our Motto,

Kevin Ellis, President
Division One, Yonkers
