Irish Echo Labor 10 Awards Program

Yonkers Hibernian Honored at Labor Awards Ceremony Sponsored by Irish Echo Newspaper

Sinn Fein Pres. Gerry Adams, David Miller, LiUNA Pres. Terry O'Sullivan & John Sullivan

The Irish have a proud and storied history when it comes to America’s Labor movement.  Indeed, whenever and wherever there was a struggle for workers rights, the Irish were there, dating back to the early days of the Pennsylvania Coal Miners Unions to the present day efforts to secure living wages and pension protections for America’s workforce.

The Irish Labor 10 Awards Sponsored by The Irish Echo Newspaper

The Irish Echo newspaper held its “Irish Labor 10” Awards ceremony in Manhattan on September 25th to celebrate today’s Irish Labor leaders, as well as to remember those workers and leaders of the labor movement in the past whose struggles and sacrifices have given all of us certain workplace rights that we have come to enjoy today.

John Sullivan presents Labor Award to AOH Yonkers Member David Miller

The entire membership of AOH Division #1 Yonkers was thrilled to learn that one of our members, David Miller, was chosen as one of the 10 Award Recipients that evening.  David is the past President of The International Laborers Union Local #60 at Yonkers Raceway.  David has been a proud member of The Ancient Order of Hibernians for over 15 years.  "David has always had a tremendous pride when it comes to his Irish heritage,” said Division President Kevin Ellis, “He always volunteers to carry our Division Banner in every St. Patrick’s Day Parade we participate in.”  David also is a major contributor to the local Hibernian Charities program through his work on the organization’s golf outing every year.

The Guest Speakers for the awards ceremony were Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams and LiUNA President Terry O’Sullivan.  We would like to thank The Irish Echo Newspaper for recognizing David’s life long contribution to labor rights as well as his work towards local charities, and we extend well deserved congratulations to David Miller and his family.  His accomplishments are something we can all be proud of!

The need for a new chaplain arose when long time Yonkers AOH Chaplain Fr. Eric Raaser, Pastor of Immaculate Conception Church in Tuckahoe was moved to a new assignment by The Archdiocese of New York.  The normal term for Pastors is 6 years.  Fr. Janeczko happily agreed to accept the new position when approached by AOH members over the summer months.
