Yonkers AOH Supports Benefit for Boy Diagnosed with Bone Cancer

Division #1 members Stephen McDonagh, Mike Morley and Kevin Ellis
with Event Organizers at the Benefit for Luke Event at Rory Dolan's

A benefit was held this past weekend at Rory Dolan’s in Yonkers for a young man who is battling bone cancer. Luke Gallagher is 11 years old and is the youngest of seven children.  He was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma and has already gone thru many treatments of chemotherapy as well as several surgeries to have his legs reconstructed.  He is currently in the process of learning to walk again but is still facing at least another 10 rounds of chemo in the future.  Luke older brother Eoghan serves as the Financial Secretary of the AOH Division #17 of New Rochelle, New York.

Capacity Crowd at the Benefit for Luke in Yonkers

The event, which was in the planning stages for several months, featured live music, dancing performances, gift basket raffles and an autographed sports memorabilia auction. A very special 70 foot long “gaming trailer” was also brought in so kids could spend time playing video games throughout the day.

The Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) Division #1 of Yonkers was honored to participate and presented the family with a $500 dollar pledge of support at the event.  If you would like to get involved and help the fundraising effort, you can visit a website dedicated to helping raise funds for Luke and the difficult challenges he faces going forward.

The mass was attended by over 30 members of Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) Division #1 of Yonkers to recognize Fr. Solanus Casey’s Irish Heritage and the 126 year partnership the AOH has with Sacred Heart Parish.  The Yonkers Division was established in Sacred Heart in November of 1891, the same year Fr. Solanus entered the St. Francis Seminary in Milwaukee.
