Cardinal Dolan Celebrates Mass Commemorating Casey Beatification

Cardinal Timothy Dolan Celebrated Mass at Sacred Heart in Yonkers

The Archbishop of New York, Timothy Cardinal Dolan visited Sacred Heart Parish in Yonkers this past weekend the celebrate a special Mass commemorating the beatification of Fr. Solanus Casey, who could become the first American Born Man to be declared a Saint of the Catholic Church.  Fr. Solanus Casey was assigned to Sacred Heart Parish from 1904-1918.

Beatification is the next to last step in the process for canonization. It means the Fr. Solanus may be referred to as “Blessed” and has the capacity to intercede on behalf of individuals who pray in his name.

The mass was attended by over 30 members of Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) Division #1 of Yonkers to recognize Fr. Solanus Casey’s Irish Heritage and the 126 year partnership the AOH has with Sacred Heart Parish.  The Yonkers Division was established in Sacred Heart in November of 1891, the same year Fr. Solanus entered the St. Francis Seminary in Milwaukee.
