Yonkers AOH Supports Catholic High School Fundraiser Program
Yonkers AOH Division #1 Donates to Maria Regina High School

The members of The Myles Scully Division #1 visited Maria
Regina High School in Hartsdale this week to present a $1,000 donation in
support of the school’s recent fundraising effort. The Ancient Order of
Hibernians has had a long history of supporting Catholic Education since its
founding over 175 years ago.
Division Charities and Missions Chairman Jack McDonald, along with Treasurer Mike Morley and Past Division President Tom Allison were given a tour of the
school by Principal Valerie Reidy and
were shown where there are plans on making extensive upgrades to both the
school infrastructure and its educational programs. These plans include a particular focus on
making improvements to its computer and technology education programs to better
prepare its students to compete in today’s job environment.
“We are truly grateful for their generous
donation. If it wasn’t for supporters like the AOH, our efforts to remain
affordable while providing a quality catholic secondary education that keeps
pace with instructional technology would be even more challenging. We are
extremely thankful for their willingness to make a difference in the lives of
the students who are entrusted in our care;” said Mrs. Reidy.
Funds for the donation that was presented were raised at
the Hibernian’s Annual Charity Golf Outing which is held every spring.
Maria Regina High School is an independent Catholic All
Girls High School that was founded by The Sisters of the Resurrection in 1957.

Yonkers AOH Presented Charites Award at National Convention 2014

Recognizes Yonkers Division for
Charities Program

| The National AOH Charity and Mission Award |
The
National Board of The Ancient Order of Hibernians presented The Myles Scully
Division #1 of Yonkers with an award recognizing its
outstanding Charities and Missions work at The AOH National Convention held
recently in St. Louis, Missouri.
The
National Charities and Missions Award is presented to those Division’s whose work best exemplifies
the motto of The AOH “Friendship, Unity and Christian Charity”. The Myles Scully Division reported over
$25,000 in charitable donations for year ending 2013, as well as recorded over
1,600 man hours of volunteer work from all of its members.

“It was wonderful to have The National Board recognize all of the hard work that our members have done over the last year” said Division President Kevin Ellis, “Much of the credit belongs to our Charities Chairman Jack McDonald, but it was a total team effort and the results speak for themselves”.

Pat Finucane Portarit Presentation
Yonkers AOH Donates Prize Portrait to Aisling Center

The members of
Division One visited The Aisling Irish Community Center in Yonkers today to
present the center with a beautiful portrait to be displayed in its newly
expanded facilities.

| Pat Finucane was killed in his home on February 12, 1989 |
The portrait
is of slain civil rights attorney Patrick Finucane, who was tragically gunned
down at his home in Belfast by loyalist paramilitaries on February, 12
1989. Mr. Finucane bravely went about
his work defending republican clients even after years of death threats. His murder is still unsolved as of today, despite
efforts to bring his killers to justice.
The British Government has consistently refused calls for international
inquiry into his death. A case review
was completed in 2012, which showed there was collusion between the police and
loyalist killers. The findings forced an
apology from British Prime Minister David Cameron, but he still will not
authorize a full investigation.

The portrait
is the creation of acclaimed Irish Artist Robert Ballagh, which shows a youthful Pat
Finucane against a canvass which has been “shattered.” Mr. Ballagh stated that his wish was to
capture the importance of this man while also conveying the violent nature of
his death.

Division 1
was initially presented the portrait by AOH FFAI National Chairman Sean Pender
as a thank you for the Division’s support of The Hibernian’s Freedom for All
Ireland Christmas Appeal. Held each
year, the appeal, (Which raised over $75,000 last year), raises funds for
charity organizations in the north of Ireland.
