Yonkers AOH Presented Charites Award at National Convention 2014
A.O.H. National Board
Recognizes Yonkers Division for
Charities Program
The
National Board of The Ancient Order of Hibernians presented The Myles Scully
Division #1 of Yonkers with an award recognizing its
outstanding Charities and Missions work at The AOH National Convention held
recently in St. Louis, Missouri.
The
National Charities and Missions Award is presented to those Division’s whose work best exemplifies
the motto of The AOH “Friendship, Unity and Christian Charity”. The Myles Scully Division reported over
$25,000 in charitable donations for year ending 2013, as well as recorded over
1,600 man hours of volunteer work from all of its members.

“It was wonderful to have The National Board recognize all of the hard work that our members have done over the last year” said Division President Kevin Ellis, “Much of the credit belongs to our Charities Chairman Jack McDonald, but it was a total team effort and the results speak for themselves”.

The AOH 2014 National Convention
Ancient Order of Hibernians to Host National Convention in St.
Louis
Members of The Ancient Order of Hibernians
from around the United States will gather for their 2014 National Convention in
St. Louis, Missouri later this month.
The convention will be held in The Renaissance Grand Hotel of St. Louis, a 5 star hotel
located along the Mississippi River and adjacent to the famous Gateway Arch.

The convention will run from July 30th – August 3rd and will include business sessions as well as events held in and around the downtown area. The delegates will have a full schedule of events over the course of The Convention. There will be National Board elections, resolution considerations, and several proposed changes to the National Constitution.

The Convention Committee has announced that there will be two VIP Guest Speakers at The Convention. Anne Anderson, The Irish Ambassador to The United States, will address the Convention on Friday Night. The Installation Dinner will feature Martin O Muilleoir, member of Sinn Fein an the current Lord Mayor of Belfast as speaker.

Yonkers A.O.H. Announces Recipients of
Scholastic Award – The Commodore Barry Memorial Medal for 2014
The
Officers and Members of Division One are proud to announce this year’s winners
of
The Commodore John Barry Memorial Medal!
The
award is made available to all Catholic Elementary Schools in the city of
Yonkers each year. The award is given to a graduating student who excels
in U.S. History and/or Social Studies. A total of 7 schools chose to
participate in this year's award program. The recipients are listed as
follows:
Sacred Heart School – Ryan Maguire
St. Ann’s School – Daniela Gonzalez
St. John the Baptist School – Kevin Graham
St. Anthony’s School – Jordan Laevsky
St. Peter’s School – Roberto Valez
St. Paul the Apostle School – Rudolph Pflaumer
St. Eugene’s School – Tiffany Lacroix
The
award is dedicated to the memory of Commodore John Barry, an Irish
Catholic immigrant who is recognized as the father of the United States
Navy. He was awarded Navy Commission #1 by President George Washington in
1798, making him the first flag officer of the U.S. Navy. Commodore John
Barry's accomplishments embody the immigrant struggle for success and serves as
an example for all young students today.
