Division Member Peter Van Slyck Honored by County Board

Westchester Hibernians Honor Peter Van Slyck with Community Service Award

The Westchester County Board of the Ancient Order of Hibernians held its annual fundraising event in Peekskill on Monday, and they took the opportunity to recognize the contributions of a special member of the Westchester Irish Community.

Division members Ken O'Brien and Tom Allison at The Quiet Man

About 75 were in attendance at The Quiet Man Public House in Peekskill to honor Peter Van Slyck, who is the current President of The Police Emerald Society of Westchester.  Peter is also a long serving member of A.O.H. Division One in Yonkers.  AOH Westchester County President Brian Kelly presented Peter with a Community Service Award for all of his contributions to the Irish community through his efforts with both the Emerald Society and the A.O.H.

Westchester Police Pipes and Drums Play Tribute to President Van Slyck

Guests were warmly welcomed by Quiet Man owner Cathal McGreal, and enjoyed the cozy atmosphere, wonderful food, and live traditional Irish music. The guests in attendance were also treated to a performance by The Pipes and Drums of the Police Emerald Society of Westchester.

AOH National, State, County, and Division Officers Honored Peter Van Slyck

This is not the first time that Peter van Slyck has been honored by the Irish community,  Peter was recently honored by The Irish Echo Newspaper for his accomplishments as a Yonkers Police Officer when he was listed in the paper’s first “Irish Law and Order Top 50”  list earlier this year.

Division One is proud to have Peter as one of its members and congratulates him for a well deserved honor!

President's Message December 2013

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Division One President Kevin Ellis

December, 2012

Brothers, I would like to extend to each and every one of you my warmest wishes for a very Merry Christmas and a Healthy and Happy New Year!  I hope that you and your families enjoy the Holiday Season.

I would also like to express my sincere and deeply felt gratitude to all of you as once again you have selected me to serve as your Division President, a responsibility that I do not take lightly.  I have and continue to believe that being a Division President (as with any other position of authority) is a call to service, and you may rest assured that all of my efforts will be focused on the success of our Division as a whole.

My goals as President will be the same as when I last held the gavel:

1)    To increase the membership of Division One to a level that adequately reflects the large Irish population that exists in Yonkers and the surrounding communities.

2)    To increase and enhance Division One’s profile and reputation, both within our Order and in the public arena.

3)    To investigate and discover new sources of revenue to take our charities and missions program to the next level.

As you know, we are fast approaching our busiest time of the year.  Soon we will be providing details of our Super Bowl Fund Raiser, our Annual Pub Tour and Communion Breakfast, then it is into the St. Patrick’s Day marching season, all the while building up to our Annual Charity Golf Outing in April.  It is an ambitious schedule to say the least!

Finally, I would like to give an extra special thanks to our Immediate Past President Tom Allison.  Tom stepped up when needed and did an outstanding job!  Division One had one of its most successful years in its history and Tom’s tireless efforts were a big reason for it.  Thank you Tom on behalf of all of our members!

Working together, we will make 2013 the best year ever! I know I can count on the support of everyone as we move forward as a group, now and always.

Yours in our motto,

Kevin Ellis

President, Division One
