16th Annual Charity Golf Outing

Yonkers AOH Holds 16th Annual Charity Golf Outing at Ardsley Country Club

The Majestic course located at The Ardsley Country Club

The Myles Scully Division held its Annual Charity Golf Outing this past Monday at The Ardsley Country Club in Westchester County.  Over 125 golfers attended the event, and enjoyed 18 holes of golf on a course that provided a tremendous panoramic view of the Hudson River and the cliffs of the Palisades.

Here is a video of the days events!

The proceeds raised that day fund the Division’s Charity and Mission’s Program, which provides donations to Irish and Catholic Charities in the Yonkers and Lower Westchester County region.  The Program has grown in its size and scope every single year, all because of the support of our growing list of friends and sponsors. This year, the event had its largest number of sponsors ever!  Last year, the Division reported over $16,000 in charitable donations, and judging by the success of this year’s outing, we are confident that we will be able to surpass that mark!

The officers and members of Division One would also like to thank John Brisson and the wonderful staff at the Ardsley County Club.  Everyone was impressed with the professionalism and attentiveness of the entire staff.  All those who attended the event were hopeful that they will be returning next year!

The event would not be the success that it is without the individual hole sponsors, some of which sponsor our event year after year.

We also are thankful to those members who donated raffle prizes, especially Kelly O’Brien Leonelli of Kelly’s Baskets who prepares the prize gift baskets for us.

A special “Thanks” to our Past Division President Tom Allison, who, also serving as Golf Committee Chairman, worked night and day to ensure that everything came together.  The entire golf committee performed an outstanding job this year!  It is dedication like this that made this year’s event the largest and most successful ever!

If your group or organization is thinking of holding a golf outing, we strongly recommend The Ardsley Country Club!  Visit their website at www.ardsleycc.org.

Extreme Makeover-Neighborhood Edition 2013

EXTREME MAKEOVER
NEIGHBORHOOD EDITION 2013

The Aisling Irish Community Center together with A.O.H. Myles Scully Division One Yonkers and other community groups and individuals will team up on Saturday, May 11th, 2013 for “Extreme Makeover – Neighborhood Edition”.

This initiative will involve a consortium of community organizations and volunteers getting together for one day to give the Woodlawn/McLean Avenue neighborhood a “spring clean”. We also encourage people to go out that day and do up their own yards as well as helping their neighbors including the elderly, single moms, etc clean their yards.

The A.O.H. Division One Yonkers members will be available on the day to help in anyway necessary including making basic repairs or improvements OUTSIDE the home.  People would need to sign up for this earlier and should call the Aisling Irish Community Center at 914-237-5121.

If you know of anyone who would like plants or shrubs planted in their garden (purchased ahead of time), this will be done by adolescents living in the neighborhood who will do this with adult supervision.
This is not only to help our neighborhood look cleaner but to pull together as a community to assist it in looking better and to take some pride in it.

Please call Aisling Irish Community Center at 914-237-5121 if you would like to get involved in “Extreme Makeover – Neighborhood Edition” on Saturday, May 11th, 2013 or if you would like some help with your own home/garden or if you have an elderly neighbor who would appreciate a helping hand or some “green fingers” to get their garden or the exterior of the home in shape for spring.

President's Message May 2013

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Division One President Kevin Ellis

May, 2013

Brothers,

Division One is continuing to keep a busy schedule as we head on into the month of May, and there are several important events that will be taking place within the next few weeks.

Before that, let me first congratulate the entire membership on a job well done with the smashing success of our 16th Annual Charity Golf Outing!  The final numbers are still coming in, but it is looking like this year’s outing will be our most successful one yet, an amazing effort!  Special thanks to Tom Allison and the golf committee, who continue working all year long to ensure the outing is a success year after year.  Their efforts will make sure that our Missions and Charities program will continue to grow in both its size and reach.   I would also wish to thank John Grissom and the staff at The Ardsley Country Club who made the day absolutely unforgettable and special.

I would also like to commend Pat McLaughlin on his work in getting our United Ireland resolution adopted by the Yonkers City Council.  The resolution is part of a national effort within the A.O.H. to encourage the Irish and British governments to finish implementing all provisions of The Good Friday Agreement.  The fact that Yonkers is supporting this call carries serious weight, and we will continue to support the efforts of our Freedom for All Ireland State and National Chairmen with this campaign.

There are two important events this month:

First, Division One, along with the Aisling Irish Community Center in Yonkers, have teamed up to have the first “Extreme Makeover-Neighborhood Edition”.  This will take place on Saturday, May 11, 2013.  We will be assisting with general cleanup of the surrounding Woodlawn/Mclean Ave. areas, as well as visiting specific homeowners who require small repairs and work outside their homes.  This kind of community service goes right to the heart of what our organization is all about.  Kevin Hartnett has done a wonderful job in helping to organize this event.  Specifics will be discussed at our membership meeting.

Second, Division One will be the host as we hold our Major Degree Ceremony at Tara Circle on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at 2:00 pm.  All members who have not received their degrees must make every effort to attend this very important event!  The event cost is $25.00 per member.  Registration begins at 1:00 pm and attire will be business casual.

Division One will once again be awarding The Commodore John Barry Medal to a graduating student from each of the 9 Catholic Elementary Schools in Yonkers this year.

Please remember that our membership meeting in June will be held on the Tuesday, June 4th at Dunwoodie Golf Course.  The meeting will start early at 6:00 pm, followed by our “Summer Break” BBQ and celebration immediately after the meeting.

Lastly, I would like to wish a Happy Mother’s Day to all of the wonderful moms out there!  Here’s to wishing you a deserved loving and hopefully relaxing day!

In Our Motto,

Kevin Ellis, President
Division One, Yonkers
