2016 St. Patrick's Day Parade Season

Yonkers Hibernians March in Local
St. Patrick’s Day Parades

Division #1 Yonkers marching up 5th Avenue in New York City

The Myles Scully Division #1 of Yonkers was visible in many places this month as its members participated in many of the local St. Patrick’s Day Parades that were held across Westchester County.  The Division marched in a total of 4 parades over the span of 7 days in what turned out to be one of the most successful parade seasons ever!

The first parade took place in White Plains on March 12th, where Division #1 marched proudly behind the Rockland County AOH Pipe Band up Mamaroneck Avenue.  This parade is fast becoming a favorite of the membership and we thank the parade committee for hosting us once again this year.

The next day, Division #1 marched in the 20th Annual Sleepy Hollow St. Patrick’s Day Parade.  This was a special day as Dennis O’Brien, who is a Division Officer, was chosen as an Aide to the Grand Marshal John Dunleavy.  Congratulations to the members of AOH Division #11 Tarrytown for the great work they do in organizing this parade!

St. Patrick’s Day is always a special day for the AOH, and this year was no exception as The Myles Scully Division marched in the 255th Annual New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade.  It was a great day with above average temperatures and we were able to see so many of our friends and supporters as we made our way up 5th Avenue! We were honored to march behind Senator George Mitchell, who served as this years Grand Marshal and was instrumental in helping the Peace Process in the North of Ireland become a reality!

The fourth and final Parade on March 19th was the 61st Annual Yonkers St. Patrick’s Day Parade.  Our members take exceptional pride of a parade which was created by The Myles Scully Division back in 1956.  Dennis O’Brien was the AOH Aide to The Grand Marshal, who this year was Patrick Quinn.  Pat Quinn was the original creator of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, which has risen over $220 million toward finding a cure for ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Division #1 led the procession into Mass at St. Barnabas Chapel and then assisted with formation duties.  Our members did an excellent job getting the over 5,500 marching out onto McLean Ave.  We then took our place of honor as the last marching unit to come up the Emerald Mile.

Congratulations to those “Iron Man” members who were able to attend all four parades this year!  The members of Division #1 once again showed how Hibernians march with respect, honor and dignity.
