Aisling Irish Center Celebrates 20th Anniversary

The center
was founded at small gathering in the back of a pub on Bainbridge Ave Bronx to assist young and newly arrived
Irish immigrants in the local community.
The center then opened on McLean Ave Yonkers United States

The honorees for the dinner were The Office and Staff of the Irish Consulate General, Hilary Beirne, and Kerri Ann O'Connor. The event was visited by Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano, and Westchster County Legislator David Tubiolo.

60th Annual Yonkers St. Patrick's Day Parade
Timothy Rooney Jr. Named Grand Marshal for 60th Annual
Yonkers St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Timothy Rooney Jr, General Counsel of Empire City Casino
at Yonkers Raceway, has been named as the Grand Marshal for the 60th
Annual Yonkers St. Patrick’s Day Parade on McLean Avenue to be held on March
21, 2015. Mr. Rooney will lead over
5,000 marchers, including over 28 bands up The Emerald Mile on McLean Avenue in
front of an estimated 35,000-40,000 spectators in what many are now proclaiming
to be the 2nd largest St. Patrick’s Day Parade in New York State.

The events on parade day will begin with a Mass held at
St. Barnabas Chapel at 11:30, followed by the parade which will step off at
1:30pm.
In addition to Mr. Rooney, The Yonkers St. Patrick’s Day Parade
Committee has chosen eight individuals to serve as Aides to The Grand
Marshal. Those chosen represent a cross
section of The Irish American Community who have contributed greatly
to their community and represent the very best of The Irish in Yonkers.

The parade also will also host several events in the days
leading up to the parade. On Saturday,
March 7th, there will be a flag raising ceremony held at Yonkers
City Hall at 4pm. There will then be a
Mass held at St. Mary’s Church on Broadway at 5pm. The day will conclude with a Grand Dinner
Reception held at Yonkers Raceway Starting at 7pm.

The Ancient Order of Hibernians, Myles Scully Division #1
was the founding organization and original sponsor of The Yonkers St. Patrick’s
Day Parade in 1956. The AOH still
assists the Parade Committee with formation on Parade Day, and will once again take its place of honor as the last marching unit to come up The Emerald Mile.

The AOH Division
One of Yonkers was proud to present The Aisling Irish Community
Center with a $3,000 donation in support of the center’s community support
and outreach programs. The presentation
was made at the Aisling Center’s 11th Annual Dinner
Dance at Maestro’s Caterers in The Bronx on October 3rd. The donation is a part of The AOH Yonkers
Charities and Missions Program and was made possible from funds that are raised
at The AOH Annual Golf Outing that is held in April every year.
The Aisling Irish Community Center is one of the largest Irish
immigrant resource centers in the tri-state area and the main provider of
services for the elderly Irish and Irish-American communities of Yonkers and Woodlawn. Its seniors program
includes weekly activities and a free lunch every Tuesday, which is donated by local
restaurants and caterers.
Other services and classes offered by The Aisling Center include confidential and professional counseling; legal and immigration referrals; assistance with employment & accommodation; classes in Irish language, music, & dance; Computer Classes; Karate for Kids; Acting classes, Yoga classes for preschoolers, teenagers, adults and seniors; Boot Camp; Moms & Tots group; weekly AA meetings; and TAIW Defensive Driving Course.
