Members of
the Myles Scully Division #1 of Yonkers took part in the Annual “Ice
Bucket Challenge” which was held on August 7th at Empire City Casino
at Yonkers Raceway. The Ice Bucket Challenge

Pat created the Ice Bucket Challenge in 2014, and he has worked tirelessly as an ALS research advocate ever since. To date, The Ice Bucket Challenge is responsible for raising over $220 million dollars towards finding a cure for ALS. These funds were recently credited with enabling a scientific breakthrough when researchers were able to isolate a particular gene that is responsible for causing the disease.

Patrick
Quinn himself has personally helped raise funds through his “Quinn 4 the Win”
charity, which has held local ALS fundraising events in the Yonkers area for the past several
years. It was recently learned that Pat's condition has deteriorated, and he will soon require a special wheelchair as well as
a vehicle equipped to meet his personal needs for him to continue his busy schedule of appearances and speaking events.

The Yonkers St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee has announced
that Patrick Quinn has been selected as
Grand Marshal for the 61st Annual Yonkers St. Patrick’s Day Parade in
2016.
Quinn, a Yonkers native, is known as the creator of The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, a worldwide phenomenon that has raised over $200,000,000
to help find a cure for ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Pat Quinn’s Irish roots come by way of
Counties Armagh, Down, Cork, Clare & Westmeath. Patrick attended St. John the Baptist Elementary
School in Yonkers and graduated from Iona Preparatory School and Iona College
in New Rochelle.
In 2013, Patrick was diagnosed with ALS at the age of 30
and quickly went to work as a forceful advocate for research and development of
a treatment for the disease. In 2014 he
helped create the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, which quickly became popular around
the world and help raise hundreds of millions towards research. Through his efforts, the Ice Bucket Challenge
not only raised money, but it also increased awareness of the disease in the
worldwide media and is credited with creating a renewed push to find a cure.
Patrick continues to be a strong and forceful advocate for
ALS funding and research through his “Quinn 4 the Win” Organization, which
holds events every August to help one day find a cure for ALS. He has spoken at countless events promoting
the cause, which has included addressing the U.S. Congress and speaking at dozens
of schools and other engagements.
Patrick was nominated for the Time Magazine “Person of the Year” in 2014 and has received
many accolades and awards for his efforts.
He and his wife Jennifer live in Yonkers since being married that same
year.
