National Freedom for All Ireland Committee also presented the Yonkers Division
with an award and certificate for its support of the AOH FFAI Christmas Appeal,
which provides funding for organizations who work and support the peaceful unification
of Ireland

Annual Respect Life Mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral

Members of
Division One attended the annual Respect Life Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral
in New York City on Sunday October 6th. The mass, co-sponsored by the A.O.H. and The
Sisters of Life, is held every October to celebrate the solemnity of every
human life.

The Hibernians were warmly greeted by Msgr. Robert Richie, who reminded those gathered that all human life must be respected and protected from conception till natural death. He also told the story about how the A.O.H. defended Old St. Patrick’s Cathedral against those who wished to destroy it back in the 1840’s.

The Hibernians then attended a breakfast arranged for them at Maggie’s Place on east 47th Street. Notables in attendance were NYS President Jim Burke, National Director Charles “Chip” Mclean, National Pro-Life Chairman Jere Cole, and N.Y. County President Tom Beirne.

Annual Communion Breakfast 2013
Yonkers A.O.H. Hosts Annual Communion Breakfast at St. Joseph’s

The Ancient Order of Hibernians of
Yonkers welcomed over 200 people to their Annual Communion Breakfast at St. Joseph’s Seminary this past weekend, an event that has
grown bigger each and every year!
The Hibernians and their guests were warmly
welcomed by the new Rector of the Seminary, Msgr.
Peter Vaccari. The mass was
celebrated in the Seminary’s Chapel, the mass was then followed by a full hot
breakfast in the cafeteria.

The guest Speaker for the day was Fr.
John R. Sheehan S.J., who is the President of The Xavier Society for the Blind as
well as the chaplain of the Notre Dame Club of New York. Fr. Sheehan
told the exciting story of his life, which included life threatening moments in
Africa, ministry work in the south pacific, to living
blindfolded for a month in order to prepare himself for his work with the
blind. Fr. Sheehan thanked everyone for
the opportunity to speak, the gathered guests all were captivated by Fr.
Sheehan's lifelong record of service.

The Division also honored one of its
own as Ronan O’Brien was named 2013 Yonkers Hibernian
of the Year. Ronan has been an extraordinary member over
the past several years. The honor was
truly well deserved. Congratulations
Ronan!

The officers and members of Division
One would like to thank Msgr. Vaccari, Fr. Nick and the rest of the staff at St. Joseph’s Seminary for a wonderful breakfast and
event. We are privileged to be able to
hold our breakfast there each and every year. Special thanks to our breakfast
chairman Brendan Murphy, whose works all year to make sure everything goes
smoothly, and thanks to all of our friends and supporters for attending this
very important yearly event!

Sean Tallon Football Tournament 2012
Yonkers AOH Holds 4th Annual Sean Tallon Memorial Gaelic Football Tournament

The Myles Scully Division of Yonkers continued its proud tradition of promoting Irish culture through sports by sponsoring the 4th annual Sean Tallon Memorial Gaelic Football Tournament this past Sunday at Paddy’s Field in the Woodlawn section of the Bronx. The tournament was run in conjunction with the St. Barnabas G.F.C. and the GAA N.Y. Minor Board.

The division once again welcomed the Under-8 squads from St. Barnabas, St. Raymond’s, N.Y. Celtic and Rangers of N.Y. in the 7 a side competition for the Sean Tallon Memorial Cup. The weather cooperated on this day as we were all blessed with sunny skies and temperatures that rose into the middle 60’s.

The day saw the crowning of a new tournament champion as Rangers unseated the two time defending champion St. Barnabas in a well played and spirited final match.

This year, we were honored to welcome AOH National Director Charles “Chip” McLean, as well as NYS District Director Brian Kelly to the event.

Special thanks go to the St. Barnabas G.F.C. for once again hosting this event! We would also like to thank the GAA N.Y.Minor Board for sanctioning the tournament each and every year.
Division One is proud of the partnerships it has built over the years that have allowed this event to become bigger and better each year.
Congratulation to Rangers of N.Y. GFC! We look forward to seeing everyone back at Paddy’s Field next year.

ANNUAL COMMUNION BREAKFAST 2011

The Myles Scully Division
1 Yonkers held their annual Communion Breakfast at St. Joseph's Seminary in
Yonkers on February 27th. N.Y.S.
President Charles "Chip"
McLean, State Organizer Ed Rice, and Westchester County President Brian Kelly
were among the over 150 friends and supporters who filled the seminary chapel
and were treated to a full breakfast in the seminary's cafeteria.

The mass was celebrated by Bishop Gerald
Walsh, the President of St. Joseph's Seminary, who once again honored the
Hibernians with grateful remarks about the Order's support of the church and
vocations during his homily. Bishop Walsh also brought out the famed McSweeney Chalice from its vault and
used it in the celebration.

After mass, the attendees listened to the guest speaker for the afternoon, Father Dave Dwyer, CSP who is the host
of "The Busted Halo Radio Show" which can be heard every weeknight on
the Catholic Channel on Sirius/XM Satellite Radio. Father Dave spoke
about the Paulist Fathers mission to reach out to younger generations of
Catholics using mass media and networking technology.
Division 1 President Kevin Ellis recognized Tom Allison as the Hibernian of the Year for his decades of community service to the City of Yonkers. He also presented a $500 donation to the Seminary in support of vocations.
