St. Patrick's Day Parade Season 2017
St.
Patrick’s Day Parades

| Division #1 Marching Past St. Patrick's Cathedral in NYC Parade |
The
Ancient Order of Hibernians often refers to the month of March as the “High
Holy Season” and for good reason, as the members of Division #1 Yonkers participated in four St. Patrick’s
Day Parades within a 7 day span this year.
The Division once again marched with pride and dignity and was also able
to help honor 2 members who were selected as Aides to the Grand Marshal in New York City and Yonkers .
The White Plains and Sleepy Hollow Parades on March
11th and 12th were held despite bitter cold weather with
temperatures hovering around 20 degrees.
Division #1 nevertheless proudly marched in both with a proud display of
dedication and determination.

This year Division #1 marched in the 256th Annual New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade where several inches of snow which had blanketed the city only 2 days before March 17th. The NYC Sanitation Department did a wonderful job clearing the parade route.

This year
was very special as Division #1 President Kevin Ellis was chosen as the
Westchester County Aide to the Grand Marshal.
President Ellis greeted the Division as they came up 5th Avenue and marched with them as they
passed the reviewing stand.

The very next
day, Division #1 participated in the 62nd Annual Yonkers St. Patrick’s
Day Parade, where Cardinal Timothy Dolan was selected as the parade Grand Marshal.
Sean McEvoy was chosen as the Aide to the
Grand Marshal for his years of dedication to Division #1 and the entire Yonkers
Irish Community. This was a very well
deserved and overdue honor and we couldn’t be more proud of Sean on this day!

The Yonkers
St. Patrick’s Day Parade was founded by Division #1 Yonkers in 1955. The Division now assists the Parade Committee with
unit formation and then takes it place of honor as the last marching unit to come
up the Emerald Mile each year.

AOH Supports Yonkers Member in Need
Myles
Scully Division #1 Supports Fundraising Benefit for Yonkers Hibernian
The
members of the AOH were out in force on April 2nd to help support a
fundraising benefit for a fellow Hibernian in Yonkers.
Jimmy “Big Poppa” Casey is a proud member of Division #1 in Yonkers and suffered a terrible injury
back in January during the Blizzard of 2016.
He is a popular figure in the local Yonkers Community, where he has
organized and run the Annual Toys for Tots program over the last 14years.

Jimmy had
slipped on ice in front of his home the night of the blizzard and was knocked unconscious
by the fall. Jimmy lay exposed to the elements
where over 2 feet of snow fell in subzero temperatures. He was not discovered until the next morning
where he was found clinging to life. He
was stabilized by doctors, but he suffered from extreme frostbite on both of
his hands which subsequently required the amputation many of Jimmy’s fingers. The benefit was organized to assist with
Jimmy’s medical and rehabilitation expenses.

“The outpouring of support from the
AOH was tremendous,”
said Division President Kevin Ellis, “Once
we put the word out, the response was almost immediate.” Checks began arriving shortly there after
from Divisions and individual Hibernians across New York State.
Support even came away from as far as Chicago, Illinois & Roanoke, Virginia. “We were blown away when we received a check from Division #32 in Chicago,” said Ellis. “We even had individual members from Long Island drive up to show support for Jimmy.”

A total of
over $2,000 was received at the time of the benefit, and additional donations
are expected in the near future. When
combined with the contributions of Division #1 and its members, the total was
brought to over $4,000.

Jimmy
Casey continues to remain in the hospital during his recovery, and it is still
unclear at this point when he will be able to return to a normal life once he
is released. There were many at the
benefit who took notice of the large AOH presence at the benefit. “The
AOH is not just a fraternal organization, it is a true brotherhood,” said
Ellis, “That quality shined through for
everyone to see here today, Jimmy has a tough road ahead, but he will know that
he has his Hibernian brothers standing with him.”

Cavan Football Club Boxing Night 2013
Yonkers
AOH Supports Fellow Hibernian at Charity Boxing Tournament
The members
of Division One were out in force in Woodside Queens this week to support
fellow Hibernian Sean McEvoy as he
took part in a fundraising boxing tournament in support of The Cavan Football
and Social Club of New York. Sean is a
proud member of Division One and the owner of Danny Mac’s Bar in Yonkers.
Here is a Video of Sean's Fight
Members
joined other supporters on the bus trip to St. Mary’s in Woodside and were
treated to 7 amateur fights to raise money for the Cavan Organization. Sean’s fight was ruled a draw by the referee,
but members couldn’t help but feel Sean was the better fighter!
| Everyone had a great night helping raise money for the Cavan Football Club |
The night
came to an exciting finish as Brother Ronan O’Brien made a surprise guest
appearance as a ring card girl in the final round of the final fight. Scratch one more thing off the bucket list!
| Member Ronan O'brien wows the crowd during the final bout! |
Division One
is proud of Sean and all of the other volunteers who boxed and made this night
memorable for all!

The 2nd Annual McLean Avenue Merchant’s Association Fall Festival 2012
![]() |
| A tremendous crowd fills McLean Ave. along the "Emerald Mile" in Yonkers |
The McLean Avenue Merchant’s Association held its 2nd Annual Fall Street Festival on September 15th, and the Myles Scully Division was there to enjoy the tremendous day as over 10,000 people crowded along the “Emerald Mile” in Yonkers.
![]() |
| The festival has grown tremendously in only its second year |
Incredibly, in only its second year, the festival has grown from a one-time experiment to a guaranteed blockbuster yearly event that is fun for the whole family. There was something there for everyone; rides, games, crafts, music, dancing and don’t forget the raffle tickets. There was even an Irish sausage and cannoli eating contest!
![]() |
| Sign up here! The Division One recruitment table |
The A.O.H. of Yonkers had an information and recruiting booth located near the east end of the festival, and we are proud to say that we were successful in signing up nearly a dozen new members! It was also wonderful to see all of our friends and supporters over the years stop by our tent and say hello. We were even giving away free refrigerator magnets emblazoned with our newly designed Division One Logo.
![]() |
| Everyone loved the new Division One logo magnets! |
The officers and members of Division One would like to congratulate The McLean Avenue Merchant’s Association for putting on such a wonderful day! Division One is a proud and enthusiastic supporter of MAMA. Special thanks to brother Sean McEvoy, owner of Danny Mac’s Tavern, who helped us with our location and setup. We have learned in a very short amount of time that we can always count on Sean!
